Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder resulting in low body weight, low BMD and increased low-trauma fracture rates. There is also an increasing interest in bone marrow type and how disease influences this. This PhD studentship will investigate patients with AN during their therapy and recovery to discover whether their BMD results can be used to aid their return to health. Their BMD and body compositoin will be measured during their treatment to assess bone, lean tissue and fat mass gain and bone marrow types will be measured using MRI to ascertain variations in fatty and haematopoietic marrow during their recovery.
