Magnetic nanobots: construction and study of microscopic swimming machines

Dr P. G. Petrov, Dr F. Y. Ogrin

The project is a collaboration between the Electromagnetic materials and Biophysics groups that aims to develop a new generation of microscopic magnetic 'machines' capable of directional motion in liquids with high viscosity. The project is based upon a novel idea that we have patented [1] and published [2]. The potential applications range from microfluidic devices in engineering and chemistry to targeted drug delivery devices in biomedicine.
